AFTT After Dark First Event Wrap Up

On the 4th of August this year, we were proud to introduce the first fortnightly edition of AFTT’s After Dark Event, inviting industry members and film buffs to be a part of creative minds joining together to discuss new topics and interests in the film world.

From creating digital content to screenwriting successfully, this new fortnightly event includes industry Q&A, panels, and exclusive screenings, held at our Surry Hills campus.

This first event saw professionals from two web series’ discuss everything from women working in the industry, to working on a tight budget.

The panel included;
A Shared House – web series
Joshua Lundberg (Producer/Director)
Georgia Woodward (Producer)
Ela Campbell (Producer/Actress)

Starting From Now – web series
Julie Kalceff (Producer/Director)
Rosie Lourde (Producer/Actress)

'Tonight was seriously rad. Inspiring, motivating and full of talent + creativity'
-Marty McLean Thursday 4th August

During this first event, the professionals discussed the media landscape and how more and more people are turning to Web series’ rather then the original format of TV. The producers from ‘Starting from Now’ chatted about the difficulty of breaking into the traditional landscape which lead them to creating their web series. They were told however that creating a drama web series would not work, as the majority are comedy focused. However, after building an international viral following across the first three seasons and reaching 20 million views in less than two years, producers Rosie and Julie discussed the importance of securing significant funding from Screen Australia and Screen NSW to create Seasons 4 and 5.

Both Rosie (SFN) and Georgia (ASH) mentioned the difficulty of balancing both producing and acting. ‘They are two different hats / two different brains. How to handle producing stuff whilst still emotional from character and vice versa can be difficult to flip between. ‘

Industry members for AFTT AFTER DARK will be announced on Mondays of the week before the event, and will always be held on Thursdays.
Gold coin donation upon entry, refreshments provided at the conclusion of the event.
