Living in Sydney

AFTT’s campus is located on the east coast of Australia, in Sydney. A vibrant city with a population of four million, Sydney is Australia’s largest city. It is nestled on the beautiful Sydney Harbour, known best for iconic landmarks the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sydney has earned its reputation for being a fun, lively, safe and friendly city. It is home to people from 150 countries, contributing to a diverse cultural, dining, shopping, sporting and entertainment experience for students and tourists alike.

Sydney is surrounded by stunning coastal scenery. There are 37 beaches along Sydney’s coastline, including its two most famous beaches, Bondi and Manly. The majority of these beaches are within 30 minutes from the city centre by public transport. Sydney’s mild climate and coastal location provides its residents with a great indoor/outdoor lifestyle. The city is just two hours from the Blue Mountains (spectacular for walking and mountain climbing) and less than three hours from the Hunter Valley, one of the world’s best known wine-growing areas. The scenic South Coast, home to the Royal National Park, the Illawarra Escarpment and crystal clear waters, is just an hour away.

By world standards, Sydney people are friendly, laid back, mainly casual dressers who laugh a lot and enjoy meeting new people. Most people find living in Sydney easy compared with many international cities.

Sydney's entertainment and creative industries have also earned the city international recognition as an ideal filming location. It has contributed to the success of productions such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Superman Returns, Star Wars Episodes II and III, Mission Impossible II, Frost/Nixon, The Matrix Trilogy, The Great Gatsby and Gods of Egypt.
