Firass Dirani – In Conversation

Join Firass Dirani (Underbelly, House Husbands, Power Rangers), in Masterclass on acting, creativity and his experiences in the industry.

 

Firass Dirani is one of Australia’s most exciting leading actors of our time. His lead role as The ‘King of the Cross’ in the award winning Underbelly: The Golden Mile series caused a sensation both with the Australian public and industry insiders. A born entertainer, Firass’ profile in Australia has been on a meteoric rise. In 2010, he was nominated for the Inside Film Out of the Box award and also won GQ Men of the Year ‘Best Television Actor’ award in the same year. In 2011, he won two Logie awards for ‘Best New Talent’ and the Graham Kennedy Logie for ‘Best Actor’. 

He has starred in many Australians filmed such as the controversial film The Combination, the award-winning film The Black Balloon, and the 2012 thriller film Last Dance which won the audience award at the ‘Antipodes Film Festival in St Tropez.’ He has also starred in American blockbusters such as Pitch Black opposite Vin Diesel, and Killer Elite, where he went one on one with Robert De Niro, Jason Statham, and Clive Owen. 

He continued his reign on Australian TV in 2011, by starring in the ABC drama series The Straits with award winning actor Brian Cox (Braveheart, Red) and Rena Owen (Once Were Warriors). In 2012, he took on the role of Channel 9’s House Husbands. The show won most popular TV drama at the 2013 Logie awards and the series has had exceptional success filming five seasons to date.

In 2015, Firass fulfilled one of his long-life dreams by working with legendary director Mel Gibson, on the World War Two epic Hacksaw Ridge. The film was released to critical acclaim and won two Oscars at the 89th Academy Awards early 2017. Late 2017, Firass released his first produced and directed action comedy short film Bang! Bang! on Facebook. It had a reach of a quarter of million people. In 2018, he appeared in the FX TV series Mr In-between, directed by Nash Edgerton and stared in comedy series Sando produced by Jungle for the ABC.

Firass’ energy, creativity, and his passion for exploration will undeniably drive him to extraordinary heights in any arena he commits to dedicate himself to. During this Masterclass, Firass will cover his experiences in the Film Industry, his approach towards acting, advice to young filmmakers and the new opporunities actors will see in digital media platforms. This session will be run “in conversation” with AFTT Head of Acting Glen Hamilton and live Q&A’s from our zoom and in studio audience.
