AFTT Partner with JMC Academy to Create First Ever National Acting Course

This February, AFTT were proud to partner with JMC Academy and bring our successful Acting course to JMC’s Melbourne campus! Now, we are happy to announce that the AFTT Acting course will be expanding to JMC’s Brisbane campus, creating the first national Acting program in Australia!

The course, originally developed at The Academy of Film, Theatre and Television (AFTT) has a proud 30-year history. The Professional Acting Program (as it was known then) was one of the first in Sydney to receive independent accreditation, and over the years, has helped AFTT build a firm identity in Sydney as the leading independent college for the performing arts. The diploma and degree have produced some of Australia’s best and most versatile actors, with Alumni performing in all major theatre companies across the country, cast in most Australian television productions as well as working on films both domestically and internationally.

JMC are proud to be collaborating with Head of Acting at AFTT, Glen Hamilton to bring this exciting, innovating Acting course to Melbourne and Brisbane!

Learn more about Glen Hamilton & AFTT’s Innovative Acting Course

Glen has a long history in education and the Australian performing arts industry. He has directed over one hundred theatre productions, has created performance works in the theatre restaurant sector, touring shows nationally as well as a founding corporate and community performance companies. He has served on various industry panels and advisory groups, has judged on multiple Sydney theatre awards and serves as Industry Judge for the TV Week Logie Awards, in the most outstanding actor category.

Glen has an unwavering drive and commitment to the next generation of Australian actors and this led him to spearhead the development of AFTT’s Bachelor of Creative Arts (Acting) His intention with this program was to “bring actor education in Australia to the forefront of the modern industry. To equip actors with the independence of process to move seamlessly between new and traditional media, to empower young artists to claim their space as creators of their own work and to move confidently with personal leadership into a vibrant and evolving performing arts industry”. This degree was developed over a two-year period with extensive consultation with industry and academic partners. We sought to “open the blinds to the industry” and to truly look at what it means to be an actor today and what we imagine the future may hold. With an industry that is constantly evolving we have an obligation to ensure our graduates are trained for the specific opportunities this industry provides. An actor today is expected to move between work engagements in theatre, television, film, games and animation and a raft of new and emerging digital platforms. Even the face of more traditional media is changing, with the use of green and blue screen, multi camera, motion capture and multimedia. An actor must have the flexibility to adapt and adjust with independence, resilience and confidence.
