AFTT Film student Amir Kamrani’s has recently had his film “The Wheel Chair Life” accepted as a finalist in the 2017 Focus On Ability Short Film Festival!
Funded by the Australian government, the festival asks film makers to 'Focus on the Ability' of people with a disability and tell a story for the world to view. Now in its 9th year, the prestigious festival attracts entries from around the globe and an audience of over a million viewers.
Amir came to Australia as an Afghan refugee, and believes that it was his terrible experiences that drew him to a career in film. He has released 5 short films, all focusing on natural human emotions and societies issues, which he hopes connect physically and mentally with the audience. “Being a filmmaker, my duty is to deliver those issues to screen, and share my feelings of love to the audience.”
His short documentary “The Wheel Chair Life” tells the story of Umar, who suffered a spinal-cord injury at the age of 40, leaving him to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Umar reveals the trauma of his accident and discusses the life he is forced to now live, confined to his chair.
After praise and advice from his tutors at AFTT, Amir entered his film into the festival, and was consequently accepted as a finalist. Amir reviewed how, during his time at AFTT, he loved having the opportunity to work with “professional gear, making ourselves ready the for professional industry.”
Every day from now until when voting ends August 7, 2017, the festival will be giving away $50iTunes vouchers to random voters.
