Here at AFTT, we follow the mentality “be fearless” and we want to encourage you to do the same. That is why, we have put together some helpful tips to help you prepare for your HSC drama performance, so you can walk in fearless and absolutely ace it.
We have picked apart the examining criteria to help you prepare for your performances. Here, we focus on three main areas you should be working on.
Performance Skills
Whether in the group or individual performance, markers are specifically evaluating your performance skills. They are essentially looking for control in your character delivery, appropriate responses to your cues and an awareness of the rhythm of the piece. They want to see your movement control, demonstrating the appropriate energy for the piece, combined with strong vocal projection and clarity.
Your Ability to Create and Maintain a Character
In either performance, the markers need you to portray a character that is believable, which means that you need to apply complexity and depth to your role. By acting with energy and maintain focus, you should be able to develop a strong character and interact with the other characters accordingly.
Performance Structure and Coherence
Focusing on the group project, markers want to see a good understanding and application of the piece you are performing. Having an established theme with a clear objective demonstrates effective teamwork, which is a major factor you will be marked on. However, having innovation and individuality in your piece, demonstrates your ability to interpret and adapt, so don’t be afraid to show your groups individuality through your performance.
