Accommodation in Sydney
Accommodation is not available on campus at AFTT, however our Student Recruitment Advisors can refer international students to suitable accommodation options that are close to the campus.
Sydney accommodation can vary in prices, depending on accommodation type and proximity to the city. Hostels, homestays, student accommodation, serviced apartments, rental and shared accommodation are available.
Before arriving in Australia we suggest finding temporary accommodation, to give you time to get to know the area and look for a more permanent place to stay. While Sydney offers a whole range of hotel accommodation, hostels are a cheaper alternative and you can book rooms online. Try YHA or www.hostels.com.
Share accommodation is available within AFTT's doorstep. Upfront establishment costs for a shared apartment – rental bonds, electricity, gas and telephone –could add up to A$1,500-$2,500 depending where you decide to live and the quality of accommodation. Lowest priced accommodation is private board or “home-stay” (no bond or lease), though you may have to sacrifice some independence when living in someone else’s home. However, many international students find this is a good short-term option when they first arrive from overseas. Homestay hosts are usually very willing to help you find your way around.
Suburbs popular with students for share accommodation within easy reach of AFTT are Randwick (near the University of NSW) and Coogee (right on the beach). Closer to the city, Surry Hills, Newtown and Redfern are all hubs for arts students.
