Films to watch out for in 2017

2017 is set to be an epic year for films. 2016 had a good year with the release of box office gold such as Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Finding Dory ($486 mill gross!) and Captain America, but we have a good feeling about 2017.

Have a look at what lies ahead.

T2 Trainspotting

The highly anticipated sequel to the cult classic film, Danny Boyle brings us back to 1996 with the original cast to create a truly modern British film.  With the epic trailer having been released November 2016 aren’t we glad Danny Boyle is back, bringing this gritty directing into 2017.

Release Date: 27th January 2017

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Expected to make big bucks at the box office this year, Marvel are back with their second instalment of the hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy. Directed again by James Gunn, this movie is set to be a hit after Marvel announced the release of this film before the original even opened.

Release Date: May 5th 2017

The Dark Tower

Based on Stephen Kings hugely popular series of novels, this American science fiction horror is facing huge expectations from the large cult following it carries.

Release Date: July 28th 2017

Beauty & the Beast

Carrying a star- studded cast, Beauty and the Beast is set to be the next biggest children’s movie that adults will flock to see. Emma Thompson, Emma Watson, Kevin Kline and Sir Ian McKellen are just a few names bringing this Disney classic to life.

Release Date 17th March 2017

Star Wars: Episode VIII

With the follow up to The Force Awakens coming next year, the fan base is sure to cause a stir, especially as the second instalment of the new trilogy is being written and directed instead by Rian Johnson. With lots still to be explained, we look forward to seeing how Johnson takes over J.J. Abrams work.

Release Date: 5/26/17

IT

With the world causing hype around this remake through killer clowns on street corners, we hope it lives up to its expectations, even if half of the viewers are now too scared to watch. Another Stephen King adaptation, there’s bound to be some clowns show up at theatres for this one.

Release Date: 8th September 2017

Wonder Woman

After many arguments surrounding the lack of female representation in superhero movies, DC is bringing us Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot known for her appearances in the Fast and the Furious never ending franchise (which FYI is releasing it’s number 8 in 2017).

 Release Date: 6/16/17

Justice League

Fighting to beat Marvel, DC, Warner Bros and director Zack Snyder are bringing together Batman, Superman, Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, and Cyborg for this November release. Note: Green Lantern stays hidden after the infamous flop of 2011.

Release Date: 6/16/17

Thor: Ragnarok

Of course we had to mention Thor – not only for it’s high anticipation, but due to it’s Australian connections. Filmed in Australia, by Kiwi director and of course starring Australian’s Hemsworth Brother Chris as Thor, this third Thor is one we are keeping an eye on.

Release Date: 3rd November 2017

We look to be in a treat when it comes to films this year, although it is important to note the lack of original scripts this year – with Hollywood instead opting for an abundance of remakes and sequels. Either way, we welcome 2017 with open arms.
