Tutor Lex Marinos takes to the stage in Sunset Strip

Acting Tutor Lex Marinos recently performed in the show ‘Sunset Strip’ at Griffin Theatre. lexmarinos300.jpg

Directed by Anthony Skuse, who last year directed AFTT graduating show at Belvoir Theatre “Our Class”, and is this year directing another graduating Belvoir show, the play was deemed a complete success.

Lex received glowing reviews, once again proving the incredible talent of our industry professional tutors.

“Playing mental illness truthfully on stage is a fine art, but one which Marinos handles masterfully. I overheard one audience member say they felt his character was a bit of light relief to break up the heavy subject matter, and sure, his portrayal does have a comedic edge. But to term Ray merely a jester is to belittle the performance of Marinos and the writing of Miller. Marinos is so wonderfully in his own head throughout the show that at times you almost forget he is there. But then a switch will be flicked and he is back, front and centre, engaging with his daughters in either lucidity or confusion. He brought more than one tear to my eye.” The AU Review.

Sunset-Strip-18.jpgHead of Acting at AFTT, Glen Hamilton went along to watch, describing how “It was a great production of a really exciting piece of new Australian theatre by Susie Miller. It was wonderful to see Lex back on the Griffin stage and demonstrating the talent that we value so strongly here at AFTT.”

Furthermore, in true AFTT fashion, when the stage manager was taken ill, her duties were taken over by AFTT graduate, Harley Williams, proving the strength in industry contacts. Lex described how it is “always a buzz to work with former students.”

Congratulations Lex!
